Money saved uses a community estimate of avoided replacement cost. It is not a verified household accounting figure.
How we calculate impact
FixLoop currently uses conservative per-entry estimates for a general household repair: 2.3 kg CO₂e, 1.2 kg of material kept in use, and CAD $45 of avoided replacement spending. Reuse, donation, recycling, and unrepaired outcomes use separate factors. These are community estimates for progress tracking, not a product-specific life-cycle assessment or a direct EPA calculation.
EPA’s Waste Reduction Model (WARM) compares emissions for material-specific management scenarios, including source reduction, recycling, and disposal. Its Version 16 documentation notes that the result depends on the material and the baseline scenario. FixLoop’s current broad repair average is intentionally labeled as an estimate; future factor tables will map item categories, weights, and local baselines to WARM data.
We count journal entries only once each. Users can correct or delete entries. Global totals update from saved entries and seeded demonstration entries are marked in the project’s development database.
